Unfading fights

Standard

During our childhood fights he always had won.

Today I helplessly watched him quarreling with his neighbor in the Alzheimer’s ward.

Martin, why are you fighting?

“I lost my Lucy long ago, I MISS HER.”

My heart broke, me being that Lucy.

  1. You packed a punch of sadness with this one. I think we all know at least one person that has battled this nasty disease. It’s so hard to be a part of it…Great job.

I don’t remember much about my grandma on my dad’s side of the family. But, I have a very vivid memory of walking into a hospital room with my dad and having her ask him who he was… It was sad and disconcerting…

Oh, so sad and painful. I am more frightened of Alzheimer’s than just about anything else. Very moving piece. Thanks for linking it up.
